NIGERIAN INSTITUTE OF JOURNALISM POSTGRADUATE PROGRAMMES

Nigerian Institute of Journalism (NIJ) is an academic citadel of learning dedicated to journalism and mass communication programmes. The Nigerian Institute of Journalism started in 1963 and is located in Lagos, Nigeria. The Institute trains the man power for print and broadcast journalism. It operates like a polytechnic, thus has programmes at OND and HND levels.

The Institution also offers courses at postgraduate diploma (PGD) level. This serves as a bridge to those media personnel who desire to be fully trained. The programme is designed to educate and equip the students with the foundational principles and theoretical framework of Mass Communication practice. The postgraduate diploma programmes offered by NIJ are as follows;

  1. Post-Graduate Diploma programme in Journalism with specialties in Print and Broadcast.
  2. Post Graduate Diploma programme in Public Relations and Advertising.

The NIJ PGD is concentrated into three specialised areas of Mass Communication:

  1. Print Journalism
  2. Broadcast Journalism
  3. Public Relations and Advertising.

The programme is for one academic session for full time and three semesters for part time students. Every admitted student takes these core courses: Foundation of Mass Communication, Theory of Mass Communication, Mass Media Law and Ethics, Mass Communication Research Methods; Communication for Development, Media Management and Topical Issues in Mass Communication.

Students also offer courses based on their professional specialty

PGD Admission Requirements

  • First Degree or Higher National Diploma from a recognized institution
  • O’ level result

    Is a Bsc holder with a pass in Mathematics o level addmitable into NIJ post graduate program ?
