BURGLARY ATTACK AT ODILI POSTGRADUATE HALL IN UNIVERSITY OF NIGERIA. NSUKKA.

It was with a rude shock, and commotion that postgraduate students resident in the Odili postgraduate hall, within the UNN campus, woke up this morning to a detestable event which left one postgraduate student seriously injured. The burglary occurred at about 3 am this morning (13/8/13). According to the victim, and corroborated by other account, the burglars, with the sole aim to steal, broke into his room, after successfully removing the nets and louvers. Only one of the three burglars had successfully entered before he woke, and a scuffle ensued. His loud scream of THIEF! THIEF!! was what alerted other neighbours who can rushing in an attempt to help, but the burglars had escape before they arrived. This was not without leaving their victim seriously injured and successfully taking his laptop. The victim was rushed to the university’s medical center. The victims room was at the basement of the four storey postgraduate hall of residence and such attempt burglary has been reoccurring unabated.

 

At day break, the hall governor Paul Hagga had summoned the dean of student affairs to the hostel, where he received first hand information about what occurred. Students expressed their concern to him. It was a heated moment as many angry postgraduate students accused the school authority of negligence and taking with kids glove, the security of lives and property within the postgraduate hostel. The Hall Governor accused the Chief Security Officer, who was present, of not meeting up to his responsibility by not providing security men after many complaints. He demanded the all rooms in the basement and one-hundred series be fixed with burglar proof and agile security men provided for round the night. A on the spot assessment of thing were done with promise to immediately take action.
