4,839 Students Graduates With Postgraduate Degrees At University Of Ibadan

Nigeria’s premier university, University of Ibadan (U.I), has awarded postgraduate degrees to over 4,000 students. This was at the recently held 2018 convocation ceremony. The degrees included Master of philosophy (M.Phil), Master degrees and Postgraduate diplomas.

PM News quoted U.I Vice Chancellor, Prof. Abel Olayinka as stating that, ‘1,765 graduands received their postgraduate degrees in Master of philosophy (M.Phil), Master of public health (MPH), Academic and Professional Masters and Postgraduate diploma on Wednesday, 14th of November, 2018.’ The remaining postgraduate convocants, including doctorate degree were to be awarded in the subsequent days.

He also affirmed U.I as a truly postgraduate focused institution, despite the undergraduate enrollment. He said, ‘ The vision of the University of Ibadan is to be a postgraduate university, with a postgraduate-undergraduate enrollment expected to be 60:40. Stressing the point further, he said, ‘I am happy to report to you that in no less than 10 of our faculties, the number of students completing postgraduate programmes during this convocation exceeds those who completed their first degrees’. The National University Commission (NUC) has given all first generation universities the mandate to focus on postgraduate education. Apparently, University of Ibadan is taking the lead. Congratulations to all graduands
