President Muhammadu Buhari recently sent a list of 43 Ministers designate to the Senate for screening. It took President Buhari about two months to pick his team that would drive the Next level agenda. After a screening by the Senate, with all gaining approval and confirmation. The nation awaits the president to reel out their portfolios, and finally, hit the ground running.

Top Buhari Ministers and their Postgraduate Qualifications

1.Mariam Katagum: She is one of the seven women that would join the cabinet. Mariam Katagum bagged a Master degree in Administration and Planning from the University of Lagos, a Bachelor of Arts, B.A in English and Graduate Certificate in Education at the Ahmadu Bello University. She also holds a Certificate in Social Development Policy, Planning and Practice at the University College, London. She was awarded a UNESCO Fellowship in 1999.

Katagum possess a vast international experience, working at UNESCO and the World Heritage Fund. She served as the Secretary General of the Nigerian National Commission for UNESCO from 2001, after fifteen years of stewardship at the Commission.

2.Dr Osagie Ehanire: He’s a brilliant Medical doctor, trained and practiced in Germany before returning to Nigeria. Osagie Ehanire bagged his MD from the college of Medicine, Ludwig Maximillians University, Munich. He also holds post graduate Diplomas from the Teaching Hospital of the University of Düsseldorf and Essen, Germany. His specialty are in General Surgery, and Orthopaedic Trauma Surgery. Dr. Ehanire was a senior registrar at University of Benin Teaching Hospital UBTH. He was also a consultant at Shell Petroleum Development Company. This outstanding Doctor from Edo state, served in the first term cabinet of president Buhari as Minister of state for Health. Obviously, he did many things right to deserve a recall.

3.Geoffrey Onyeama: A Doctorate degree holder, he had all his university education abroad, starting with Bachelor of Arts (B.A) degree in Political Science from Columbia University, New York in 1977. He proceeded and became a lawyer at St John’s College, Cambridge in 1980.

Mr. Onyeama holds a Masters of Law (LL.M) from the London School of Economics and Political Science in 1982 and a Masters of Arts (M.A) in Law from St John’s College, Cambridge in 1984. He was called to bar in Nigeria in 1983. He served as Minister for foreign affairs from 2015-2019. He made push to return many stranded Nigerians in Lybia during that time

4. Zainab Ahmed:

With a MBA and a Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Zainab Ahmed seems the most fit educationally as the next Finance Minister. She has actually served in that capacity previously, after succeeding Mrs. Kemi Ade-Osun who was embarrassed out of office.

Ahmed bagged her BSc Accounting from Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) in 1981. She obtained the MBA from Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye in 2004.

5. Abubakar Malami:

The immediate past Minister of Justice and AGF makes a return to the cabinet. He graduated from Usman Danfodiyo University in 1991, where he studied Law and was called to the Nigerian bar in 1992.

He studied futher at University of Maiduguri where he obtained his master’s degree in Public Administration in 1994. He’s a senior advocate of Nigeria from Kebbi state. His decisions during his time has been controversial, drawing the ire of human right campaigner and media as regard flagrant disregard to court decisions.

6. Ogbonnaya Onu:

Another Doctorate degree holder among the ministers designate. He graduated from the University of Lagos with a first class degree in Chemical Engineering in 1976. He proceeded for his PhD studies at the University of California, Berkeley and obtained a PhD in Chemical engineering in 1980.

He was the first civilian governor of old Abia State and the immediate past Minister of Science and Technology, Federal Republic of Nigeria.

7.Adamu Adamu:

More frequently called Mallam Adamu, He graduated from Ahmadu Bello University where he obtained bachelor’s degree in Accounting. He also obtained master’s degree in Journalism from Columbia University’s School of Journalism.

Mallam Adamu is vast in many local and international languages. He’s a journalist and writer. He served as Minister of Education during President Buhari first tenure. He joined in efforts to resolve the lingering ASUU strike.

8.Uchechukwu Ogah:

Abia born politician and business man. He attended Institute of Management and Technology (IMT), Enugu State where he obtained both Ordinary National Diploma (OND) in 1992 and subsequently Higher National Diploma (HND) Level in 1995 in Accounting.

At University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), he obtained a Postgraduate Diploma in 2005. Mr. Ogah also has a Bachelor of Science degree (Banking and Finance) from Ogun State University and a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from University of Lagos.

Not done, he became chartered as an Accountant in 2007. He has been inducted as a Fellow, Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN).

9.George Akume:

He’s a two term former Governor and a former minority leader at the Senate. Akume obtained a bachelor’s degree in Sociology and a master’s degree in Labour Relations from the University of Ibadan.

10.Emeka Nwajiuba:

He was called to the Nigerian bar in 1989, pursued his LLM at University of Lagos and PhD at the University of Jos.

11. Major General Bashir Salihi Magashi:

Lawyer and retired Nigerian Army officer. He studied at Ahmadu Bello university, Zaria.

12.Ramatu Tijjani:

An enterprising lady, born into a royal family. She bagged a Bachelor’s Degree in Urban and Regional Planning from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria in the early 1990s. At Nasarawa state University, she studied for a Masters degree in Public Administration. She’s currently studying for a PhD in the same institution.

13.Sadiya Farouq:

A new entrant to the Federal cabinet. She holds a Bsc. in Business Administration from Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, Kaduna State and Master degree in International Affairs and Diplomacy and another Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from Ahmadu Bello University.
