The University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), has began the sale of postgraduate admission form for this academic session. UNN invites applications for admission into postgraduate programmes in Postgraduate Diplomas and Master’s and Doctorate degrees for the 2019/2020 academic session:

The idea of studying for a Masters degree, immediately after a Bachelors degree or NYSC is not new. While some have a divergent views, it is better than to be idle or engaged in almost fruitless job search. The choice of Master degree must be well thought, especially financially. In Nigeria, education at first degree level is heavily subsidized, thus studying for a Masters in Nigeria is a different kettle of fish.

Personally, I saved during NYSC and it gave me a head for my Masters, but sincerely the funds didn’t do much. So it is important to count the cost. Do you have enough funds to run a postgraduate program. Note that it is not necessary to have a lump sum, but at least having an idea of the total cost would help. The Nigerian Education Agency overseeing university education, The National

University Commission NUC, has made a statement showing its concern about the proliferation of Postgraduate programme by many unaccredited universities and Institutions in Nigeria.

The National Universities Commission futher stated that qualifications/awards resulting therefrom are not recognized. NUC thus made a list of authentic universities qualified to run and award postgraduate degrees (postgraduate diploma, masters, PhD) in Nigeria as at 2012. It warned that Employers of labour, educational institutions and other stakeholders are to note that only certificates issued by these universities, for their approved programmes, are valid for employment, further studies and other purposes.

This week is a celebration of scholarly achievement, as two of Nigeria’s foremost schools, University of Lagos (UNILAG), and University of Nigeria, Nsukka, convocates students at undergraduate and postgraduate degrees level.

At the University of Lagos, the postgraduate convocation comes up on Thursday 26th January, 2016. The school of postgraduate studies will award postgraduate diplomas (pgd), masters (M.A, M.Sc, M.Phil e.t.c), and doctorate degrees.

There would also be an award of the best researcher and conferment of honourary doctorates on eminent personalities.

At University of Nigeria, Nsukka, the postgraduate convocation holds on  Saturday, January 28, 2017. Venue is Magret Ekpo hall by 10am.
