GENERAL REQUIREMENTS PGD & M.Sc. at University of Lagos UNILAG
An applicant for admission to a programme shall be:
1. Must possess a Bachelors’s degree of this University or any approved University;
2. A person who holds other qualification(s) recognized by senate of the University of Lagos;
3. In addition to (1) and (2) above, an applicant may be required, as a condition for admission, to undergo a selection process in the form of written and/or oral examinations.
NOTES:
1. (i) Candidates who have not completed the National Youth Service Corps programme or currently undergoing a Postgraduate programme need not apply. Such applicants will be automatically disqualified.
2. Candidates awaiting Bachelor’s degree results need not apply.
Masters of Philosophy (M.Phil)
To qualify for admission to the above programme:
(i) Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s honours degree from this University or any other approved University with at least a Second Class (Upper Division).
(ii) Candidates with a Master’s degree with a minimum of CGPA of at least 3.50.
(iii) All candidates to the M.Phil. programmes must contact the respective department for availability of supervisors before applying.
(iv) The candidate may be required to undergo a selection process as determined by the respective department.
Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D)
(i) A candidate who has obtained the degree of Master of Philosophy must have a minimum CGPA of 4.0.
(ii) A candidate who has obtained the degree of Masters of Science must have a minimum CGPA of 4.0.
(iii) Candidates must clear with the respective Departments as to the availability of vacancies/supervisors before applying.
(iv) All candidates may be required to undergo a selection process as may be determined by the department.
For M. Phil and Ph.D. programmes only, admission shall be processed at the beginning of each semester.
UNILAG Postgraduate Application Procedure
Get started on your journey to academic excellence by following these simple steps:
1. Application Forms will be available from Monday, 26th February to Friday, 30th August, 2024.
2. Complete and submit your Application Forms ONLINE no later than Friday, 13th September, 2024.
3. Visit the School of Postgraduate Studies University of Lagos Portal and navigate to the 2024/2025 Applications link.
4. Check the availability and eligibility criteria for your desired course.
5. Click on the “Application Form” link and select the appropriate Postgraduate option from the Application Type menu.
6. Fill out the Pre-Application Form to receive a Payment Reference Number and print the payment advice.
7. Make a non-refundable payment of N30,000.00 (Thirty Thousand Naira Only) for the Form and charges through either Remita Payment at any commercial bank using the RRR number or Online Payment directly on the portal with your bank debit card.
8. After payment, return to the School of Postgraduate Studies website, click on the 2024/2025 Application link, then proceed with the “Continue Application” link. Log in using your ‘Payment Reference Number’ as the username and provide your surname in lowercase as the password.
9. Complete the Application form and upload a digital passport photograph (jpeg format) meeting the specified requirements.
10. Review your information and click the “SUBMIT FORM” button if correct, ensuring all fields are filled accurately to avoid additional charges for editing after submission.
11. Upload all required credentials, including Degree Certificates (Not Statement of Results), NYSC Certificate, and Professional Certificates.
Further Information
1. All prospective postgraduate applicants should read through the admission requirements carefully to confirm eligibility before proceeding.
2. Note that candidates awaiting Bachelor’s degree results, currently undergoing Postgraduate programmes, or Nigerian citizens who have not completed the National Youth Service Corps assignments are ineligible. Degrees obtained from Outreach/Satellite campuses are also not accepted.
3. Ensure that Academic Transcripts reach the Secretary, School of Postgraduate Studies, before the registration/screening exercise either by postage or email to adminsecspgs@unilag.edu.ng.
4. M.Phil./Ph.D. candidates should contact the relevant Departments for Supervisor availability before applying.
